Alzheimer’s Disease

Halia’s Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease with HT-4253

David’s* Day

SAMPLE DAILY EXPERIENCES WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASEDavid’s day is full of challenges that profoundly impact his life. Memory loss is a significant hurdle, making it difficult for him to recall recent events, recognize familiar faces, and remember important tasks. He often experiences confusion and disorientation, particularly in new or changing environments.David’s cognitive decline affects his problem-solving abilities, making simple tasks difficult, like dressing or cooking. He struggles with language, finding it hard to follow conversations or express his thoughts clearly. Emotional challenges of frustration, anxiety, and depression arise from his awareness of cognitive decline and the loss of independence.
Alzheimer's Disease
Completing the simplest tasks often eludes me. I write myself notes to remind me what to do. I don’t want to slowly fade away. I feel like I’m slowly losing pieces of myself.

David’s physical coordination has deteriorated, making it challenging to balance and increasing his risk of falls. His loss of these basic abilities is compounded by his social isolation as relationships with loved ones and social interactions become challenging to maintain.

What if David never had to worry about struggling Alzheimer’s Disease? Halia is focused on making the answer to that question a reality.

It’s hard for me to find the right words to express myself. I worry about what will happen when I no longer recognize those closest to me.

Alzheimer's Disease Brain Scan

Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia. It’s characterized by the buildup of abnormal proteins in the brain—specifically amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) of hyperphosphorylated tau protein.10 These pathologies disrupt synaptic function and cause neuronal death, primarily affecting memory and other cognitive abilities. As the global prevalence of dementia is expected to rise sharply, there’s an urgent need for innovative therapies that target AD’s underlying biology.11

Obesity

Almost half of US adults are obese or severely obese. Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating behavior, and, in some cases, genetics contribute to obesity. Halia is developing investigational treatments to combat obesity.

Pain and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune condition where the immune system—normally the body's defender against infection and disease—attacks its own tissues. This results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of joint function. Halia is developing an investigational treatment for both RA and post-surgical pain.

Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer’s disease involves parts of the brain that control memory, language, problem-solving, and other thinking abilities. It can seriously affect a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. Halia is developing a potentially relevant pathway and investigational treatment for Alzheimer’s.

Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and the parts of the body controlled by the nerves. Tremors, stiffness, or slowing of movement are typical symptoms. Halia is developing a potential brain-penetrant compound to treat the disease.

Cancer

Cancer occurs when normal cells become cancerous cells that multiply and spread. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the U.S. However, fewer people die of cancer now than 20 years ago19. Halia is developing potential pathways to prevent the onset of cancer.
